Since graduating top of his class from the AAA school of advertising in Cape Town, Pieter de Groot has worked for a series of large retailers including Levi’s and the Truworths group on corporate image and communication. Highlights have included winning a Loerie award for an environmentally friendly shopping bag campaign for YDE, illustrating the COS 2010 Spring/Summer collection as seen on the COS website and being featured by Grafik magazine.

Pieter has always been fascinated by how fashion reflects and affects the constantly changing face of society. One of the challenges he has enjoyed most has been collaborating with SA designers like Stiaan Louw and Gavin Rajah for Cape Town fashion week developing textile prints and communication.

Fashion is his main area of interest but not his exclusive focus. He has designed wine labels for some of South Africa’s leading wine estates, among them Klein Constantia and Ataraxia. During this time he also helped design a book for sculptor Dylan Lewis. Another wine project was the corporate identity for Cape Ardor wine importers, San Francisco.

Pieter appreciates the importance of concept as the starting point to the design process. He prides himself on his keen eye for layout and his ability to explore and interpret different styles.

Having spent the first years of his career in his native South Africa, Pieter has moved to London lured by its progressive fashion and design industry – applying the design disciplines and flair of his own culture.
